HPCUMC's PLAN (in their words)
Renovation at the Grace Building – Because the new multi-purpose room will provide a gym, we can then fill in the current two-story gym space at the Grace Building. We can convert this space to a welcome center and fellowship area, a preschool “muscle room”, and expanded space for our choirs. We will also upgrade the Little Theatre and balcony, the Refectory, hallways, class and meeting rooms; meet technology and audiovisual needs; and add improved signage – all to make the building more flexible and able to accommodate more people.

Youth Space – We want to expand our youth program via space that is attractive to teens. As our 1927 “welcome” proclaims, we want “ young people of all the community to prefer to be ‘over at the church' than anywhere else.” The location of this new youth center will be determined later, as we mesh this concept with the other requirements in the building program.

Paying for the Erie Building and Previous Capital Expenditures – When we purchased the Erie Building in 2001, we paid for it via bonds. We would like to retire that debt, as well as the small remaining debt from the 1998 “Move Ahead, Spirit Led” campaign. This would save $30-35,000 a year in interest expense, which could then be used to fund additional church ministries.

Tithe – We have a tradition here at HPCUMC! Whenever we raise money for a capital campaign, we set aside 10% of the construction costs to donate to other ministries to fund their building projects. In the past, we have bought land for a church in Samara, Russia; a generator for a children's hospital in Haiti; and even built a bathroom for a little country church with no indoor facilities.
